This is Zac. He spells his name without a K because he isn’t in Hanson.
Ole mate started off as a naughty teenage street-art bandit, but somehow managed to Will Smith it and switch to become a professional artist once he graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts. These days he wins awards and gets paid to do what he hearts – spray painting on multiple layers of glass and acrylic sheets to create kaleidoscopic paintings. His exhibition Blue Lines is showing at Flinders Lane Gallery (8 – 26 August).
Is Blue by Eiffel 65 the inspiration for the most of your art?
No, but the chorus would make an amusing artist’s statement. Blue Lines, is inspired by the night. If I had to pick an album that represented this work musically it would be its namesake Blue Lines by Massive Attack.
What is the kewlest thing you have ever created in the name of art?
I once put plastic animals in a freezer to create a farm scene – it’s literally the coolest artwork that I have ever created.
What is the weirdest art piece you have seen?
When it comes to a weird and wonderful piece it’s the poo machine at Mona – Wim Delvoye’s Cloaca Professional mimics the function of the human digestive system. And I love it.
If you could put a design on anything in the world what would it be?
Sneakers. They would be hand-stitched high-tops featuring my geometric designs.
Are you winking at me?
No. I only have one-quarter vision out of my left eye, so it’s probably just that. Thanks for that.
