This is Ina. She is moving back to her home country of beer and sauerkraut in a few days with her 11yr old daughter.
She was born in 1965 in a small country town south of Frankfurt and travelled the whole of the EU before she was 18. When she was old enough to leave Deutschland, she bounced to America to work as an au pair in California and then travelled the coastline. Ina continued to be a #stereotype by heading to the most remote part of the world where she immersed herself in the extreme nature of New Zealand. She became a flight attendant for awhile but then nailed an interview while in her PJs in bed, and moved to Melbourne for a kewl job.
Where is the coolest place you have been in Europe?
Lake Orta in Italy. The mountains, the lakes.. it still hasn’t been that discovered now. Corsica is amazing too, it’s so remote. It has an authentic character, the people are very connected to and proud of their land. It’s such a great island.
Your favourite place on the globe?
Nepal – the Everest area. I love trekking. And learning about different cultures. This area was like.. you couldn’t go any higher. There was nowhere further to go.
Can you please explain why all your country folk wear backpacks 24/7?
We love to walk, we love nature and being outdoors lets you leave things behind. My generation are still impacted by World War II. We still carry the guilt of parents and grandparents involved in the war. They had to fight for their lives and we are still feeling the sadness from that. So we are out there trying to find ourselves. I don’t think the next generation will feel like this anymore.
I was going stay away from the war but did you have nazis in the family?
No.
But don’t all Germans say that?
No. But also none of them had much of a choice. If they weren’t following a certain discipline they would be tortured, their families and friends would be tortured too, and they would all be killed.
With the New World Order and the Illuminati trying to be in charge, do you think there will be another world war soon?
No. I’m a Buddhist so daily I’m chanting for peace in the world. If we make peace with ourselves there is no need to fight others. If we see the world as a shared environment, there will be no reason to battle. Love and peace are stronger.
Nightclubs, Oktoberfest and David Hassellhoff aside, what are the best things about Germany?
1. Beer gardens 2. The Christmas markets. 3.The value of friendship – we are very committed to our friends, it’s often a life long bond. 4. Swimming naked – the younger generation aren’t so into it for some reason. 5. German men – they are less rough than Aussies, softer, kinder and more gentle.
What will you miss about Melbourne?
The freedom. The space. The vibe. This constantly changing, dynamic city. Everyday you can discover something different here.
