Moondog Brewery @ 17 Duke St, Abbotsford

This brewery is in one of the dodgiest looking streets this side of Thai Thai 2, joyously neighboured by a panel beater and a brothel. It is part brewery, part lounge and part garage, with a caravan out the front serving pizzas because Melbourne. Think mis-matched old nana-couches, Mary Poppins lampshades, indoor palm trees, huge brewing vats, wine barrels and of course a book-shelf that reveals a hidden door. To be fair, I can’t really picture that myself and I have been there, so lets just say it’s part of the Bedknobs and Broomsticks set. They do free popcorn, table tennis and probably you, if you ask nicely, and there is a huge projection screen that drops down for movies/sport and heaps of beer on tap to get you through said movies/sport. It’s not a huge place but it is exactly what you want in a relaxed, 90’s garage-party feeling waterhole so it is with great pleasure that I make this announcement – IT IS MY FAVOURITE DRANKING PLACE IN MELBOURNE.
