Look at these two. Out and about at their favourite plant shop Looseleaf in Fitzroy. They are both 93 years KWAIN so I ask these baes a few things about what it like being.. not my age.
What is being old like?
Es: The pits. It is so depressing, I hate it.
Mim: Me too, I hate it. You feel so useless. And all my friends have died. Its sad.
You guys are depressing me. What is good about being old?
Es: Nothing. Oh wait, you can go to bed whenever you like and no one tells you off. You can also sleep in until lunchtime.
Mim: I can pretend not to understand or hear questions that I don’t want to answer. People feel rude asking you the same thing four times.
What was WW2 like being in Melbourne?
Es: I absolutely loved the war. There were so many American soldiers who would come to Melbourne. I would go out to the best nightclub called The Dug Out and we would dance all night. They were great those men they were so lovely, so much more polite than the Australians. And they would give you presents – stockings were so hard to get, and the Americans would give them to us as gifts. I had so many boyfriends.
Mim: I loved the war too. It was a great time. So many parties. So many lovely men around that we would go out with. Life was great back then.
Riiight, ok then what about Vietnam?
Es: What about it? I’ve never been there.
Mim: Oh I have, I loved it. Wait no, that was Hong Kong. No I don’t think I have been to Vietnam but my grandson Cam has. He brought me back a green plate with an elephant on it.
What are the best things in your life?
Es: My children. Having a family is the best thing you can do. Also dogs, I love dogs.
Mim: Yes my children are fantastic. I also like shopping. And the electric blanket my grand daughter bought me the other day, its just the best.
Es: Oh yes they are great.
