Kaiten Sakura Sushi @ 61 Little Collins Street – Blark. I had eaten nothing but party food all weekend thanks to a little trip north to celebrate Jezz’s birthday that resulted in him chugging a bottle of Moet in front of the Harbour Bridge as though it was something he does on the daily. What I needed was something light, ‘healthy’ and something to make me feel skinny so off to Kaiten Sakura Sushi train I went. I took along my ole mate Ole Mate who is a particularly good companion for a Monday lunch when you’re both recovering from two days off and it takes more than a coffee to get your brain working. We plonked ourselves on the long table hypnotically watching the little sushi train carriages whirl past. Someone had brought along three little kids (to a restaurant in the middle of the city? On a work day? WHY?) however they were the most well behaved things I’ve ever seen so for one of the first times ever I didn’t tell off kids I didn’t know. Anyhoo, me and Ole Mate ordered the standard jasmine tea and like scary human octopi we launched our tendrils at all the plates we wanted which were of course the most expensive ones because we have fine taste aka we forget money exists thanks to Paywave. Nothing out of the ordinary on the ole choo–choo: roe wrapped in salmon, unagi with some cream cheese, dumprings, those random custard pudding things that no one ever takes etc. Not gonna lie, the food was a tad cold (and a bit $), but for me, food on a little toy train is comfort food. The sauces are always yum and tasty and it is quick and easy: in and out, no fuss. We sat next to a couple who were ON THEIR FIRST DATE and I just want you all to know that telling someone you just spent 10days in a silent mediation retreat is a sure way to not get a second date.
